A Christmas Gift List

As we had some quiet family time before bed tonight, Rick and I were asking Wally about Christmas gifts he would like to give people. The conversation went a little like this.

Us: Wally, if you could pick a Christmas gift for Poppy, what would you give him?
Wally: That is easy, some tools.
Us: He would like that. What would you give YaYa?
Wally: I would give YaYa an art kit.
Us: That is a great idea. What about for Grandpa?
Wally: I would definitely give Grandpa some trains.
Us: Grandpa does love trains. What would you give Grandma?
Wally: (enthusiastically and lovingly) I would give Grandma some Christmas morning kisses!
Us: Oh, Wally. That is exactly what she would want.

His responses to all of these reminded us how well he knows the people he loves.

A Little Shopping

This afternoon, Rick asked if we could go to the mall to see the Christmas decorations. He said he thought it would help put him in the Christmas spirit. When I mentioned that our Christmas shopping is mostly done, he said he only wanted to do some window shopping. So we loaded the kids in the van and headed to the mall. There was pretty decorations and the Christmas shoppers were engrossed in their shopping lists. As we entered Eddie Bauer, an employee greeted us.
Wally: Hello.
Shop girl: How are you doing this evening?
Wally: we are shopping for windows.
Shop girl: (looking at Rick and me) Um, oh. (Then it dawned on her... ) Oh, you mean window shopping.

On the way home, Wally wanted to call Poppy and YaYa. She also asked him what he was doing for the evening. He told her we went to the mall to shop for windows.

Can't Hold it Back

Wally asked me to get him some Cheerios for breakfast because he was "STAAAAAAARVIIIIING!" I got a bowl and the box of Cheerios while he continued to dramatically tell me how hungry he was. I started pouring them into the bowl
Wally: I just can't hold it back anymore.
Me: Hold what back?
Wally: The starvingness!

Bedtime Prayers

Part of our bed time ritual with Wally includes saying prayers. This is how it goes...

"I see the moon, the moon sees me. God bless the moon and God bless me." Wally then goes on to request blessings for others in our lives, typically the same group of family members at the beginning followed by friends and other people on his mind at the time. Tonight it went something like this.

God bless Mommy, Daddy, Baby Liam, Grandma and Grandpa, Auntie Sharon and Ed who is about to marry her, Melissa and Marc. And God bless Poppy and YaYa, Uncle Teak and Anutie Ann and their baby who hasn't been born yet, their dog Cowboy. God bless Brendan and Aiden, my news friends at school and Ms. Broome. God Bless Michael Jackson.

Noodles and Potatoes

Conversation on the way to day care this morning:
Wally: Mommy, tonight for dinner can we have my very favorite thing?
Mom: What is your favorite thing?
Wally: The one noodles and potatoes.
Mom: Hmmm, noodles and potatoes... Do you mean tomatoes?
Wally: No, I mean potatoes.
Mom: When did we have it?
Wally: Last night.
Mom: We had Jimmy John's sandwiches last night.
Wally: Maybe it was a few days ago.
Mom: Where did you eat it?
Wally: At our house. Daddy made it.
Mom: Do you mean Spanish Rice?
Wally: Yes, that's it. Can we have that?
Mom: Maybe, I will check with Daddy.Wally, did you know that Spanish Rice is Rice and tomatoes, not noodles and potatoes.
Wally: Yeah, that's what I said!
Mom: (in my head, "typical male response"

Loving Son or Instigator?

Our family spent the day with our friends, Brian and Andrea and their sons, Brendan and Aidan. While the boys were playing, Brian and I were talking at the kitchen table.

Wally came running into the room with a big smile and said, "Mom, I love you!" I told him I love him too as he ran out of the room.

Brendan came running into the room with a big smile and said, "Dad, I love you!" Brian told him he loves him too as he ran out of the room.

Aidan came running in to the room with a big smile, and said, "Dad, you're a butt!" Then he ran out of the room.

The Eye

Wally (while doing something I just told him not to and my back is turned): Why do you have an eye on the back of your head?
Me: Because I am a mom.
Wally: Where did you get it?
Me: God gave it to me.
Wally: Why?
Me: Because He thought I might meed it to keep you out of trouble.

No Fear of Commitment

Wally's friend Aley turned 8 on Saturday. He was so excited to go to her party becaus he adores Aley and always has fun with her. Before going to the party, we headed off to Target to find a gift for Aley. I asked Wally what he wanted to get her for her birthday. He replied, without hesitation, "Mommy, I would like to get her a ring."
We were (thankfully) unable to find a ring so we looked for something we thought she would like. We found a cute purse that came with markers so Aley could color the purse herself. She loved it.
While we were getting ready to leave the party, Aley came out of the kitchen with a baggie full of potato chips and said, "Here Wally, now you have something to eat on the drive home."

How old???

Wally: Mommy, how old is Grandpa?
Mommy: He is 70 years old, Wally.
Wally: Wow! He is almost 100!
Mommy: (Smiling) Don't tell Grandpa that.
Wally: (Smiling sarcastically) You know I will.

Dinosaur Train

Wally wanted to have his baby brother sit on his lap to watch Dinosaur Train together. He was so proud to be able to hold him by himself.
