A Splash of Color
Wally couldn't wait to get a Mohawk. Once he found out we could color it, he couldn't wait to do it. He has Wikd Hair and Crazy Sock Day at his summer program on Friday. This was a trial run over the weekend.

The Cup
This summer Wally is playing baseball for the first time. Because this is the first year for most of the kids on the team the focus was more on the skills and concepts rather than the score and who wins.
After each game, Wally makes up a score that he may actually believe to be real then shares that with whoever will listen.
After the game tonight, Wally saw the neighbor girls outside. He was excited to share the news.
"Ellie, Bekah! Just won another game. We are undefeated. We are probably going to win the Stanley Cup."
Shortly after that, we talked about different sports and their championships. Now he is hoping to go the the world series someday.

Another Big Word
Sitting at the fire pit in our backyard, Wally was poking at the fire with a long stick so it didn't appear he was paying any attention to the conversation YaYa and I were having a conversation about the book she is reading. It is about former presidents. She was telling a story from Reagan's presidency.
It was 1981 and Anwar Sadat, president of Egypt, had just been assassinated. Reagan and former presidents Ford, Nixon and Carter flew to Egypt for the funeral. Reagan went on Air Force One while the others flew together on another aircraft. As you know, Ford, Nixon and Carter were not fond of each other. YaYa was telling me how Carter and Ford bonded on the flight over their mutual disdain for Nixon. As YaYa finished telling the story , Wally said "That must have been awkward."

A Good Day for Math
Wally: I know what 7 times 77 is.
Rick and I try unsuccessfully to do some quick math in our heads.
Wally: It is 539.
Rick and I looked at each other while both grabbing our cell phones to use the calculators.
Of course, he was right on the money.
I Should Have Seen it Coming
On Monday evenings, Wally helps collect the garbage from around the house and helps take it and the recycling to the curb with Dad. Midway through collecting this evening, he disappeared for a while. When I went looking for him, I found him in my bathroom it a bit stinky. I asked if he was almost done and he said he was. Several minutes later, he still hadn't appeared so I headed back to check on him. Again he told me he was almost done. I gave him several more minutes and walked back again. Here is the conversation through the bathroom door.
Me: Buddy, are you done yet?
Wally: Did you hear the toilet flush?
Me: No.
Wally: Did you hear me wash my hands?
Me: No.
Wally: Then no, I am not done yet.

He said what????
Before I can tell you this story, you need to know where it started. When I was a young girl, I was in Brownies. Mom and I learned a song back then that goes like this:
I've got something in my pocket,
That belongs across my face,
I keep it very close at hand,
In a most convenient place.
I'm sure you couldn't guess it,
If you guessed a long long while.
So I'll take it out and put it on,
It's a great big brownie smile.
To my knowledge, Wally has never heard this song.
We were sitting at the dinner table and Wally was getting a bit irritated and cranky.
YaYa said, "Wally, I have something in my pocket that belongs across my face. Do you know what it is?"
Straight faced, he looked her in the eyes and said "Duct tape?"
What could we do but laugh.
