Cleaning the Mess

One November morning, Wally asked me to reach the Lincoln Logs from the top shelf in his toy room. I got them down and we spread them all over the floor, building little houses and forts. He continued to play with them for a while as I worked on other things. When he decided he was done and needed to be put away, he again came to me. Here is what happened:

Wally: You need to clean this mess up! (With an attitude and waving his finger over the mess.)
Me: I'm sorry, what did you say?
Wally: (Again with the attitude and waving finger) I said, you need to clean up this mess.
Me: Wally, this is not my mess. You made this mess. These are your Lincoln Logs. You need to clean them up.
Wally: You got them down, so you need to clean them up.
Me: Wally, I got them down, because you can't reach them.

Wally gave me his best little devilish grin and we cleaned up the mess together.
